Graziela Barroso Shade House

Graziela Maciel Barroso (1912-2003) was an important taxonomist of native plants and the first woman to apply to be a naturalist at the Botanical Garden (1946). She graduated in Biology at the Guanabara State University (currently UERJ) and taught for over 50 years, training Brazilian botanists. She was a close friend of Burle Marx’s, who named this set of nurseries after her, which houses part of the Araceae collection, with species of large ornamental potential, including representatives of the Brazilian flora.
