Margaret Mee Shade House

Margaret Ursula Mee (1909-1988) graduated in painting and design in London, in 1950, and in 1952 came to Brazil, where she trained as a botanical illustrator at the Botanical Institute of São Paulo. Her work explores tropical flora, especially of the Amazon region. Many of her illustrations were made on the site, whose museum collection includes 18 original watercolours and a large book of illustrations of her authorship. She was a close friend of Burle Marx’s. He named this nursery after her, which houses a large collection of anthuriums, arranged in vases and flowerbeds, and on the side, a collection of bromeliads
